Tuesday Takeover: Joni Stewart

If you have followed Joni Stewart on social media you have noticed that she is always looking “classy” (pun intended) in every situation. Whether she’s getting ready for work as a secondary teacher, dressing up her adorable kiddos, or meeting up with friends after hours, I have always looked at her effortless style with admiration and often coveted her clothing choices. Where did she get her fashion sense and inspiration? Well today, we are finally getting some answers! I’m pleased to introduce the beautiful Ms. Joni Stewart to Maz Modern to present her flair for fashion.

I was so excited when Katherine asked me to collab with her for a Maz Modern takeover! Before I became a secondary teacher, I worked as a stylist for some pretty amazing retail stores. It wasn’t until my good friend, who was a teacher, told me about her experiences did I figure out my passion for teaching others. The rest is history.

I think the best advice that I can give about fashion is to pick a style that you are comfortable with, know your body shape, and have confidence! I would say my style has been influenced by a global perspective. I love shopping for brands all over the world. I have purchased from designers from Ghana to Belgium. I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and it inspired me to love a more laid-back aesthetic and of course my love of all things linen as well! If I were to describe my style, I would say it is glam with a pinch of quirkiness added in. I take much of my style inspiration from my mom, who is one of those most stylish women I know. I also love following Blair Eadie and Aimee Song.

Into the Trenches

Being a teacher and single mom on a budget, I really love getting luxe looks for less and many times I like to mix it up with high-end brands and mall brands. For today, I went for a monochromatic look. In order to transition to spring, I chose a trench coat from Staud to elevate my look. Trench coats were all the rage during fashion week and they are such a classic staple that all women need.

Generosity comes in Neutral

Since I went with a neutral palette for my dolman sleeve mock neck blouse and high-waisted trousers from Express, I picked out snakeskin patterned pumps and a dramatic earring. Not only are these earrings fabulous, but they were purchased at Olivela.

Note about Olivela - Luxury Shopping with Purpose: this online retailer takes a percentage of the purchase proceeds, to help women and children in 3rd world countries have access to clean water, education, and health facilities. There's nothing better than getting that chic outfit or accessory and helping others in need in the process!

After Hours, Happy Hour

For happy hour, nothing is more versatile than a cute wrap dress. I love this one from Bluzat because the cinching detail on the sides is very flattering. Since the color is so bold, I finished it off with a neutral shoe and purse. The earrings add a much-needed whimsical touch.
