New Office, New Vibe
This time last year I was strolling around South Beach enjoying the 80 degree winter weather in Miami. This year with Covid, we had to put a pin on my Miami beach excursion and opt for a more low key celebration. That said, that doesn’t stop this girl from dreaming or reading about it…and I brought the sunshine, inspo, and bold color back from Miami when designing my new office space.
Exit Winter, But Make It Fashion
No one in Oklahoma goes without a reliable weather app to help us with our fashion choices. The sundown of Winter and the grand entrance of Spring brings, for us especially, a wide array of temps. In one day you can spend the morning in the 40s and the afternoon in the low 80s which makes us use our fashion “thinking caps” in a very dynamic way. The answer to this wild swinging weather for many is to dull down the wardrobe until things stabilize. Of course, here at Maz Modern we are not known for minimalism so here’s my hot take: “Exit Winter; but make it Fashion.”
Tuesday Takeover: Danne Johnson
My first year of law school I was lucky enough to take Professor Johnson’s Civil Procedure class where her training as a former litigator for the SEC served her well in training young lawyers to be sharp and ready. Along with managing her classroom and her household as a mama of two, she’s become a mentor to many female students in the OCU Law community, including myself. She’s earned a reputation for leading with authenticity and giving back to her community through her philanthropy, leadership, and commitment to changing the cultural climate to create a more humane future. Most recently, she’s leveled up her lead with her new organization Our Work, LLC focused on diversity and inclusion training in the workplace. Allow me to introduce the stylish, confident, and fierce trailblazer Danne Johnson to takeover this Tuesday.
Bienvenidos a Miami - 405 Style
It’s date night in OKC. The ever-changing and cruel winter weather has given us a break. The sun is out and lucky for my husband I am in a mood—a great one— and it is because I fell in love.
Tuesday Takeover: Cinthya Allen
Timeless and Versatile. If you know Cinthya Allen, you’ve likely not only noticed that she is ALWAYS “put together”, but you’ve likely felt the beauty and positivity that radiates from her. I am lucky enough to know Cinthya not only in her current role as Chief Diversity & Equity Officer at City of Norman, but as a Latino community leader, a retired folkloric dancer, an OU fan, and a mama of three. This working mama has found a practical and timeless way to make fashion for work her own, but what I admire in her most is her enduring faith, good nature, and natural beauty that shines through everything she does. With warmth, allow me to introduce Cinthya Allen’s style to Takeover Tuesday.
Courthouse Lewks for Women with Curves
How many of us have some extra Covid lbs to hide? 🙋🏽♀️ When I have a full day downtown I want to look my best for my client, but also want the ease of wearing something I am not going to have to readjust or look like I’ve been in quarantine since 2020. When I’m making my case, the last thing I want on my mind is my clothing—enter solution: a dress that looks like suiting, is fitted to your curvy body, but hiding those extra lbs. This dress is conservative enough for court, but not passing on lewks in typical Chiara Boni La Petit Robe style.
Tuesday Takeover: Elizabeth Isaac
On this Tuesday, Elizabeth Isaac takes over the Maz Modern blog to showcase her quirky, eclectic, and practical attorney style. With a knack for guiding creative professionals through their legal hurdles, she surely is one to watch for style and poise. Finding her own unique blend of comfort and style, Liz has solidly found her own fashion voice and we are excited to have her style speak volumes today.
Outfit Inspo: Legally Blonde
Any 90’s teen girl remembers THE professional fashion icon in pink; Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods. Elle was busy taking over the legal world in her bright pink suit and symbolically climbing the steps of Capitol Hill with her little dog Bruiser. What seemed like a caricature of a typical LA girl with big dreamz quickly inspired so many young women to know that a legal career was not beyond possibility with enough sass, tenacity, and focus. For a teenage girl, Elle was the girl that raised the stakes, with fashion, in the legal world. In honor of this iconic legal character, we bring you a suit so divine, even Elle would give us snaps. 😘
Combat dry skin in the winter
The winter season brings forth the joy of Christmas and snowstorms, but also the need for some serious attention to skincare. Read more for my list of current obsessions for recovery and maintenance of dry skin.
Lunch after Litigation
In a single tone, this suit speaks for you while you are not saying a word. The cut and quality of Lafayette NY 148 is among my favorites when it comes to style and quality in suiting. Navy suits are a courtroom to boardroom staple, but they don’t have to be boring. Find a shade of blue you love, like this Mountain Blue, a style of suit that works for your body type, and style it in a monochromatic way for an elegant courtroom professional look. Show up fashionably late to your next lunch date in this elegant and timeless suit.
